Upturned small cat found off north-foreland

I did not miss it, in fact I quoted it in 16#. But it does not answer my question which was "Who bans them? Is this some law? ... or club rules?"

David, I think if you go back and read posts numbers 4 to 8 inclusive, and read the link therein to a Belgian website, you will understand that the reference was to Belgium. Failing that, can I assure you the relevant bylaws apply to Belgium.

I am sure that is right, but it is OR4751 that does not seem to know that, not me

Sorry to go on a bit, but I get irritated by people giving out duff information about stuff we may rely on

And which part of post 6 is "duff information" exactly. OR4751 correctly explained the Belgian situation, with no reference to UK waters. Put your spade away, put down the stick and wash your hands.

So, if I sailed from Essex to Ostend, leaving in a Force 5 and the wind piped up to a 6 by the time I arrived in Belgian waters, would I have broken a British law, a Belgian law , both or neither ? Just asking..

None.

It only applies to (wind)sufers, small craft (like the cat in the story I linked to).
The 'ban' does not apply to seagoing vessels.

Small craft (such as that cat) and windsurfing is (since last summer) restricted in anything above a F5.
Another knee jerk reaction of the politicians.

All the references I've seen talk about the ban starting at F7, which doesn't sound too extreme. There aren't many windsurfers who'd be safe in F7.

There was a high profile case of a couple of surfers caught out off Blankenberge in 2014 in a F7. Twice is as many weeks.
In one case, the air force had to rescue the same bloke twice.

The politicians' first reaction was: 'you can't stop people from being stupid, but you can make them pay for their mistakes/rescue'.
Then, someone pointed them to SOLAS and rescue being free of charge.
Hence the 'ban'.
