Hello all,

Just after a few pointers please...... I'm bringing a 38ft TSDY up the river soon but while I'm familiar with the lower reaches, I've never taken a boat above the Upper Pool before. Am planning to go up on the flood and get to Teddington lock about an hour before HW. Apart from the obvious like air draft and other vessels, is there anything in particular I should key an eye for? Best place for visitor's moorings above/below the lock?

Much appreciate any input....

Moorings just above the lock or if you fancy a run further up then Hampton court is probably the nicest spot.

Stevens ait island 20 minutes up from Teddington lock is ok but sometimes full of boats and you'd need a dink to access the shops.

Also moorings at Kingston bargewalk right hand side above Kingston bridge but I prefer Hampton Court.

Do read up on the meaning of the different lights (day and night) and shapes on the bridges on the tidal Thames and make sure you know all the speed limits, which are, unusually, speed through the water not sog. Watch out for rowers/scullers, anywhere from the barrier onwards as your wash will sink them and the constant slowing down for them will add significantly to your passage time. Don't cut any corners from Tilbury onwards as the PLA will be watching and will tell you off! The Teddington lock is operating restricted hours of operation at present.

Came round from the Medway on Monday. London is like a ghost town, only saw two clippers on run through.plan your trip to arrive as barrier lifts there are no visitor moorings below the lock ,your first nights stop should be just above lock...virtually empty ..all locks so far on SS ..lady lyndsies absolutely jammed with big narrowboats and livaboards tonight.
