Upholstery - how to remove covers that have a zip and buttons?

Or you can do what im trying to do and thats making 14 new cushions, Thankfully no buttons. One a week for 4 months. Now I want a different colour so now im making another new set.

Just took the cushions out of storage for the coming season.........half of the buttons have broken without even being used. Plastic attachments are not strong enough for upholstery.

Probably depends where you get them. The ones on Blush were still going strong when we sold her, nearly 20 years after they were used. The cushion covers were washed, on average, every two years.
