updating electronic charts?

I have a very limited knowledge when it comes to computers and electronicy things so maybe you can help.Im about to acqiure some C-map Nt+ cartridges for my Raymarine chartplotter, i understand that you can update these using downloads from certain websites, is it just a case of downloading these updates on to a laptop and uploading them in to the chartplotter, i suppose there are special connections you need to do this?

If you find the web site let me know, there is a charge of £26 to update one at an approved C-MAP stockist, if you are buying new the chip should be up to date,the updates are not that important as only slight alterations are noted, and your Admirilaty charts will contain the recent changes via Notices to Mariners. C-MAP electronic cartridges however are great especially when used on the best gear such as Raytheon, wise choice.
