Happy to be corrected but i think that's how it works Mapis. For a 12mth airtime contract they often want a local address and bank account.

I don't think this is agianst EU law. They have credit policies and these are applied equally to all applicants, so no discrimination, hence EU lawful. I think.

Well of course I was a bit simplistic in my previous post, it's not just a matter of relying on instruments - yes or no.
For example, being in thick fog rather than in pitch black night makes actually a helluva difference, obviously.
Same as being in shipping lanes in a channel, rather than in open sea.
Also, the sea state dictates how litlle are the targets visible on the radar screen.
And above all that, if you don't have any time constraint, cruising at 10 rather than 20 kts is obviously safer anyway. If nothing else, because you have better chances to avoid major damages, would a collision with a floating object occur.
All these facts should be taken into account to make a wise decision.

But if you cruise in open and reasonably calm sea, in a pitch black night but with no fog, and for any reason you don't want to go slowly, well, I wouldn't see a 20kts cruise speed as something particularly dangerous.
Though helming when you can't even see the bow of your own boat is a bit scary, at first glance.

Can't say for sure right now, you could well be right.
What I know is that a friend of mine who travels a lot has at least a German mobile, and IIRC also a French one.
And he uses it/them also for data connectivity, but I'm not sure about his contracts/tariffs.
I'll ask him on the next occasion, and will follow-up here if I find anything which might be of interest.

I bet his multiple numbers are PAYG or he uses his business's office addresses to get contract numbers...
