I just bought another boat and it has one of these chartplotters. Although it has a card slot, the chart (all UK waters apparently) is in memory.
Any ideas how I can get an updated chart? Or can't I ? Seem to recall some kerfuffle about Garmin chartplotter updates.
I've had a look round Garmin's website but didn't seem to get anywhere near what I am looking for.

If it is anything like mine, you need an SD card which you put into the chartplotter. This then loads onto it some information about the plotter. Take the card home and put it into your computer. Think you then need Homeport or Mapsource to update the maps onto the SD card, which you then take back to the plotter.

edit: Chart updates here: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/map...452-c455-atFILTER_FEATURE_DOWNLOAD_01-p1.html

However, your unit isn't listed on the G2 HD charts - and the manual (p. 94 http://static.garmin.com/pumac/1067_OwnersManual.pdf) specifies G2 not G2 HD.

Spoke to a Garmin service agent, who advised me that that chart updates are no longer available for these chartplotters. I don't know how old it is until I visit the boat and take a look again, but apparently the last chart update card was in 2013, so maybe one of those would be better than nothing if I could find one.

Speak with Barry at Garmin Europe 08082380000, he will do his best to help, even sent us an update data card for our 188c gpsmap, but it did not work for us, the unit is not supported and obsolete but maybe he can help you?

Thanks for that, I will try him.
There are data cards on Ebay so maybe they are the last resort so long as I can be satisfied about the date.
