The wind was just right for a sail up the Stour today.
Not been allthe way up there before.
Cracking sail!
Just passing Wrabness when we had a call on 16.
It was benw whos new (to him) Sigma 38 was moored to a bouy there.
We sailed on as far as the depth would allow turned back and rafted up with him.
Thanks Ben for the company and the G&Ts.
Good to meet you and your family.
Hope the BBQ went well.

Damnit,

Somebody else who has discovered the attractions of the Stour!

We were anchored for lunch on the south bank about as mile upstream of Parkeston when you came past, and also noticed Paladin gyrating under assymetric.

The Stour is one of the East Coast hidden secrets, a truly noble river with lots of playing room, particularly upstream of Parkeston. Probably second only to the Blackwater.

Despite its ramshackle air we are very fond of Wrabness; many a barbecue consumed on the beach, and in the morning the view across Holbrook Bay to the Royal Hospital School, can be sublime.

Luckily the marina dwellers from Levington and Shotley who congregate for lunch, tend to b....... off by teatime leaving the place to those of us who enjoy solitude and quiet.

BTW there is def less water over the Deben bar at the moment.
At high water (06.00) on Friday the depth went down to 3.4m, and at half tide yesterday evening (17.45) it went down to 2.3m. As we draw 2.0m there was a certain amount of muttering about the keel not needing a scrub as the boat had only been back in the water for 10 days!

What a great weekend. At last we had a chance to set a full sail and a although only a short journey to Wrabness it was great fun. Friend and daughter on board wade the difference for my daughters. Great to meet up with Clive and Tim, I have very fond memories of our Evolution and being able to see the great job Clive has achieved recovering his was great to see at first hand. Really enjoyed the company Clive/Tim thanks for stopping by.
BBQ was great and all back on mooring by mid afternoon today.
What will the next bank hol bring?
Ben

Oostende vor Anker

I went up to Mistley several times over the weekend - the fence's still there - and also went on to Manningtree. There were very few boats on the upper Stour, probably due to lack of water, but the moorings at Wrabness did fill up. I looked for burgees but didn't see any - were you all flying yours?

Sirenia was flying her forum flag and the code flags E, C & F
We only stopped for a couple of hours along side Ben's Sigma 38, Orcana.

Now I see your boat names I realise I did pass astern of you on my way back downriver as you were moored under the cliff. I didn't make out the flags though I probably waved anyway!
