Unusual visitor to Porlock Weir

I took this pic on her maiden voyage a few years back ,she is heading down the bristol Channel from Bristol.

She has travelled a bit since then including across the Atlantic.

Yes it definitely looks shallower than usual. Maybe they have recently bulldozed the entrance channel. More water on the way in but less left in the pool at LW.

Another Mathew Pic I took in Sully Bay

Because the lock gates are bust they no longer sluice and so the Pool fills up with mud. The gut looks nice and wide and flat, but there looks to be a bar at the entrance already.

We havent been to Porlock this year yet, when we do i must remember to raise the lifting keel by the looks of it. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

No problem with our boat. The ballast on the end of the keel plate is fitted to match the hull. When the keel is raised the slot is well protected.

Lovely weekend in Porlock, yes Dawn Star was aground by about 6" at the stern but the mud is soft and I sat upright. Bar is quite flat and with 5' draft cleared on Mondays tide with 0.7m under the keel one and half hrs before high water.
Brian the harbour master very helpful and only £6 per night.
They had a JCB digging out the pool during the winter.

Thought you were very brave getting your dinghy ashore in all that mud - but do tell me - what did you forget and go back for ? It looked like exceedingly hard work !

Hope you enjoyed the stay - it is a lovely spot - hope we can sail in there one day but HWMBO quivers at the thought or 6ft draught and the withies !

BTW - is the HM Brian who used to be Minehead HM and also worked at Watchet Marina ? If so, he is a v nice helpful chap.

Sorry for my ignorance but when I look at this picture I unvoluntarily wonder how the bilge keelers can make do without stern anchors. The ones to the right I can imagine can stay in place thanks to the wind (the flag on the point indicates the wind coming from the right) but the two on the left would they not be blown against the wall once the tide returns?
