I toyed with the idea while i refurbed my little boat , in the end i kept the name , now its leaking , ive called it a few names in the last week. The only reason i didnt change the name was because i couldnt decide what one to choose , so it was easier to keep the old one.

If you change the name of a boat, are you not supposed to etch the old name somewhere hidden on the boat, and that way Bad Luck is kept AT BAY!!!!!!!!

Ah the black art of renaming. Isn't there a ceremony thats carried out, a bit like the naming one on launching. This came up before.
I'm gonna ask cos no one else has, why do you want to rename it.

Arresting Story

Byron, tell us more. Are you referring to the incident involving the bicycle, can of petrol, box of old flares and the goat who drank some scrumpy? Or was it another time?

Yes! Previous owner wanted to keep original name for his new boat - changed name and problems are now coming to light. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Re: Arresting Story

The accident was what revealed to me the true nature of Birchwoods, quite simply a bit of softwood punctured the hull.
Arrested! Ah Well! That's another matter and it involved explaining to three Yobboes that it was not a good idea to try and take the Mascot off my car. March 10th 1980 I was a lot younger and fitter in those days.

Aha .. I presume you ran out of petrol and when you got back the yobboes were nicking your mascot, the dunken goat, and you told them to get on their bikes, helping them on their way by providing illumination from some old flares when the old bill arrived and misconstrued the situation?

Seems like a 50-50 split, some of you have had no probs, but then again some have suffered.

SWMBO doesn't like the current name and I'm not too keen on it, it's one of those abbreviated from the original owners' names, like 'derval' from Derek & Valerie etc.

On the other hand it could be that they named it after their toilet at home which was done out in red paint. They then simply reversed 'LAVRED' to 'DERVAL' There again what if the wife was a Commie called Val. They didn't want to call it 'REDVAL' played with it to get 'DERVAL'

Or perhaps they came from a village in Ayrshire and like most of that town were inbred, drunk and incapable of spelling ... perhaps they intended to call it Darvel?
