Union Jack Graphics on a Boat

For quite a long time one of the Plymouth tripper boats had, and maybe still has, a Union whatsit painted on its hull. I think from a previous Jubilee or V E Day anniversary or something.

Way back in the mid seventies the hot boat one year at the Tomatin Trophy (now Scottish Series) was a modified prototype Hustler 32 called 'Indulgence' from way dawn saath.
Anyone else remember her?
The highly distorted Stephen Jones hull shape was compensated for by some very expensive designer graphics of a union flag licking up in a wave from the waterline. We were well impressed with the graphics (and her performance) as until we saw her plastic boats were trendy if they included a couple of stripes.

First side done, pretty much true to the visual but there are a couple of panels that could be moved, will post some better images once it's in the water on Sunday.

It's not my boat, unfortunately it's a friends boat that I'm putting the graphics on - he bought the vinyl and I'm doing the rest for the love of it , have to admit it's been a nice project to do.

It's a flag when not on a boat, a jack when it is.

"I think it may fairly be stated, in reply to the noble Earl, that the Union Jack should be regarded as the National flag, and it undoubtedly may be flown on land by all His Majesty's subjects."

(House of Lords, 1908)

The Armys race yacht looks good with it on the quarter.

Go for it and enjoy! How many pubs and other buildings have been decorated for occasion? Of course if your going to do it then get the design the right way round. Personally l don't get all the fuss that surrounds the formalities with this type of thing. I sail in UK waters and rarely fly the red ensign, if someone wants to know what nationality l am and where l have come from they are welcome to pull alongside and ask.

Here it is on the water on Sunday, must admit I was quite please with it and when we were sat at Milwall for an hour in the rain it was good to have a friend with a cabin.
