Uninhabited Islands,Any explorers ? :)

Isn't St Kilda free to visit, for anybody a long way off course?

Sorry if it was suggested earlier, here...

I'm pretty sure you need permission to land on St Kilda. Certainly the offlying stacks are out of bounds except by special permission.

There are plenty of uninhabited but habitable islands in the Cook Islands.
We arrived at Aitutaki to check in on a Sunday and that seemed pretty much uninhabited until we found pretty much the entire island in the small church.

We never did manage to check in there...... Put that off until Rarotonga which is a bit more lively (but not much).

More information about the Cook Islands at www.ck
which has to be pretty much the coolest web address around. :D

Tom Neale found Raro to be much too busy, according to his book An Island to Oneself. So he went and lived alone on Suvorov Atoll for a total of 16 years in three periods between 1952 and 1977.

It's a National Park now, so pro'ly not allowed.

You don't need permission to land on St. Kilda, but you are supposed to introduce yourself to the NT warden and get permission if going over the Village Bay skyline.

Bad news is yachties aren't allowed in the Puff Inn any more. It was pub quiz night when we were there in May 2009, but as potential terrorists we couldn't participate. (Or had they just heard of those famous T&T pub quizzes?)

Borreray requires permission to land, though I am not sure what would happen if you landed without it. There's a good account of a trip to Boreray HERE.
