Fellow boater with a seventies type broads cruiser had a prop shaft emergency. Everything fixed but... need a nut to fasten a flange back on. The old nut was so bad that it had to be cut off, so need a new one. It's 1" with 20tpi UNEF. So far not been able to find either a stockist or a manufacturer tooled up to make one. Anyone got any ideas?

BTW. Typical boatie thing. To take the shaft out (to replace with something more common) would involve destroying 2/3 of the boat. Not an option.

Thanks. :(

Any small machine shop should be able to make you one.

Sort of thing my Dad loved to do when he was alive.

Ive still got his lathe but sadly not the skill to offer to do it.

This link gives spec of thread, so you should be able to get one machined

There are some links to stockists that may also help.

I will phone a chandler locally, who keep wide range of threads and types, I have certainly got UNF nuts and bolts. I will ask. If they have I will PM you

I have ring and plug thread guages ,but doupt in this size. I think the cost would be prohibitive just for one nut. It's easy to work out the thread depth. A UNEF thread will be 60deg. 20 TPI would have its own depth, so this can be used whatever the diameter of the thread is.

Thread spec is on link below.

Oh for goodness sake! Unified National Extra Fine. Strange to say, I believe that a 1" x 20 thread is used for antenna mounts, but I don't know whether it's this thread pattern. I would imagine that a suitable tap could be found in the States.
