UNEF nuts

it would be about that price as bronze is now very pricey and finished nut might be more depending how the turner does his costing.

Oh for goodness sake! Unified National Extra Fine. Strange to say, I believe that a 1" x 20 thread is used for antenna mounts, but I don't know whether it's this thread pattern. I would imagine that a suitable tap could be found in the States.

Rob.

I'm sure you're right and I've found suppliers, but not as big as 1". Its is a pain.

Apologies, I should have used multiquote! I've bookmarked the reply. There is a local machine shop, and if it comes down to it we can at least buy a tap from the address above and get some hex bar drilled and tapped. The nut is going to be very expensive, but without it the boat is dead.

Again, sorry for clogging this thread, but thanks to everyone that's replied. :o

What material is it, does it need to be castellated, ?

For my sins, I am on a TR7/8 forum, most people in the states, so it has uses at times, we may be lucky, and just need to post a nut over.

I'd just screw cut it. Don't need a tap. About £15.00 if you want me to make it.

Take up this offer.

My Dad would have made three or four in the time this thread has been running.

I once wanted a LH metric nut ( B&D Lawnraker) Initially he did not think he could do metric threads ... but it was made by the time I got home next day.

Also from the TR7/8 list, they are a UK part after all.

UNEF are also used on a lot of hydraulic motors. Try:

Hydrastore Ltd.
Sandtoft Industrial Estate Belton
South Yorkshire DN9 1PN
United Kingdom
tel: +44 1427 874445

Ask for a CE (400/420) SERIES MOTOR shaft nut - p/n's:
500449303 1.00-20 UNEF SOLID NUT
300339303P 1.00-20 UNEF LOCK NUT
500449304 1.00-20 UNEF SLOTTED NUT

Your choice.

These guys have relatively inexpensive unef taps and dies:

All the best
