Undesirable sales men

At Berthon Lymington anyone can walk on to the pontoons as there are no gates - I wouldn't like to be berthed there all the time (not that I could afford to) :-)

Wonder whether it's the same person who fairly regularly pesters me when I'm working around East Coast marinas. Plain van, Irish accent, back of van full of cheap apparently big name power tools, generators, compressors etc. (which I suspect are cheap Chinese fakes). Told him time and again I'm not buying stuff off him but he still keeps bugging me every few weeks

At least the marina has cameras and the pontoons are gated keypads.

There's a similar scam on farms.

A tidy, but accented, person turns up with a Transit flat bed truck, on which are piled "Some samples, my dear" of gates, troughs, hayracks, etc.

Plain van, no trade markings.

The chap says he is doing special deals and will be back in two days time if we care to place an order. And we can pay when he delivers. When you enquire about prices, they are about 10 - 20% more expensive than the local farm suppliers, so "It's sorry I am we cannot do business." and away he goes.

Except that when you look at the security video and talk to Farm Watch (the crime prevention scheme) and give them the number of the truck, the FW lady interrogates PNC, and says "That number does not exist".

Clearly they are casing the joint, on the lookout for quad bikes and tools which are 'portable'.

I'd check the marina van registration number with your local crime prevention people. Bet is comes back as unrecognised ! They change them a mile or two outside the target zone.
