Due to the reputation of Volvo anodes not lasting the season and the boat being new to me, I wanted to take a look. I was put off by the cost of "real" underwater cameras so thought this one was worth a punt - it is the Giwox 2.0 Mega Pixels HD USB Endoscope Waterproof Inspection Camera Borescope £16 from Amazon. Its a simple length of fibre optic cable with a camera and LEDs on one end and a standard USB connector at the other plus an OTG adapter for phones and a driver disk. The OTG connector was faulty but I had another one so all was OK. I have only used it on the laptop in anger as the image is a lot clearer than on a phone.

It is not a proper endoscope - there is no semi flexible "snake neck" - just a floppy fibre cable. I fastened it to a boathook with professional gaffer tape - ideal as the tape isn't waterproof but lasts just long enough before falling off so you don't have trouble removing it at the end.

The footage is on the link below - I have to say I was quite impressed. This version is slightly less clear than the original as I had to convert to mp4 to upload

Impressive. I bought a different one but the image was poor and was so blurred until it was within 50mm of the subject it was very difficult to home in on the prop so it took for ages to keep wavering it about until by chance i found the prop. Would you please post the link to the actual camera you bought. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hello,
Yup I have one and used it for a year or so. Works fantastic I inspect my anodes, skin fittings, threaded it down pipes and exhausts even used the video function to watch the props spinning. Good investment id say v clear from about two ft (600mm)

Cheers, Col.

Yep, that's it. The price difference between this one and mine is due to the differing cable length. Mine is 2 metres. Referencing a post above, the camera does not focus well at a distance, it works best from a few inches to almost touching so don't expect to be able to scan for the prop and move in. I just waved the boat hook around till it hit the sail drive leg and worked slowly down

Just ordered mine. I decided this would be really good for inspecting those hard to reach places I haven't yet seen on the boat I'm waiting to buy. I think I'll also try your trick of tying it to a stick-shaped object and looking underneath - the original owner cut an outboard well and added a transom-hung rudder, and while it might just have been for moving the boat (which is missing its inboard) I'd like to check that the spade rudder is still down there.

Just got mine. Very cool. Obviously, the first thing I did was look up my left nostril and was quite appalled... mostly at my own immaturity.

You have to download the CameraFi app from the playstore. There's a QR code on the box but I couldn't get it to work.

Next stop, the garden nest box! Chris Packham would not approve...

Obviously only for Android??
Are there any for iPhone?
Iphone doesn't support usb otg so I doubt there's an option, it's one of the great bits about android that you can connect a mouse and keyboard or usb stick very easily as well as the cameras, I tried an ancient crappy old webcam and it worked a treat, I thought about putting it my engine bay so I could take a peek on the go.

I bought mine from amazon, has a wifi connection so can use it with iPhone or iPad. Try amazon and search for iPhone capable versions

Just got mine from the eBay link above. Happy to report that as well as Android and Windows it does work with Macs. With Quicktime select "New Movie Recording". The mini CD include VLC for Macs which works as well (although most Macs can't use these mini CDs).

Putting a negative lens (eg glasses from a short sighted user) in front of it lets you focus further away than a few inches.
