There have been several derelict boats dumped down in Strood Bight.
It is also not unknown for the owner of a boatyard to quietly tow an abandoned boat which owes him money out to one of the commercial bouys moor it up and nip back under cover of darkness.
Stories about quite a large boat that was towed out of Hoo. The took on water and sunk in Kethole Reach.
It was also not discovered until a survey was being carried out.
The owner never came forward for some reason.

Many old wooden craft pressed into service as house boats are perfectly OK until they are moved.
Probably more mud than sisal in the seams. As the boat is towed it moves and flexes and the mud is washed out.
In some cases there is not enough pump capacity aboard and the journey is only going to end one way.

We cycled to Upnor the other day via Rochester Bridge and noticed the collection of craft waiting to sink adjacent to what I assume is Strood pier. There does appear to be signs of life on a couple of them.

I noticed the sunken boat on Upnor SC moorings has been lifted, (following is second hand info) apparently started off as an owner who’d disappeared, blanked all attempts at contact and wasn’t paying his fees.

A real issue for the club as I assume they’ve covered the cost of the salvage and disposal of the hull.

Strood Bight .
It s the location of choice for those evicting/ dumping or just abandoning wrecks. Probably due to uncertain ownership, used to be a small community boatyard behind the pub.
Most of the wooden stuff is already breaking up, the glassfibre stuff will be there until the second coming.
If you look carefully there is also , upstream, asunken steel tug lying half submerged immediately next to Strood pier.
Nearby is a complete six cylinder diesel engine .

It looks like a small, partially masted sailboat on the depth sounder.
Divers will be out as soon as practicable to see what it actually is and assess the next course of action, whether it's removal or left and marked with an isolated danger bouy.

Get the RE down from Brompton, I expect they'd deal with it for nothing on the basis of an exercise. If they can't lift it, they are handy with semtex.......

New NtM today, they plan to remove the obstruction next Thursday/Friday but irritatingly have not said what it actually is!

It is a small boat, possibly an open/speedboat type but not easy to identify a vessel by feel alone!
