I dont know why Med eating establishments dont do that. We were anchored overnight between the Lerins islands a couple of weeks ago and the boss wasnt feeling too well so didnt want to cook* (not even on our electric hob) and I actually said to her that I would pay a lot of money for somebody to bring me a 3 course dinner onboard. There were dozens of boats at anchor and I'm sure somebody could have cleaned up offering onboard food. Yes I know there is a pizza yacht there but most of the time pizza doesnt do it for me

One of the nicest things about Croatia is that many restaurants have their own mooring quay and normally you can park free on their quay if you eat in their restaurant and some of them will serve you their food onboard your own boat which is a lovely way to eat. I think that in Greece and Turkey you can find similar arrangements but in the W Med you see nothing like that and I think that restauranteurs are missing a trick there

Funny you should say that, because along our route there is one spot in Lastovo island where you don't even need to ring ashore.
You just dock your boat right in front of the restaurant, place your order, and they bring you whatever you please straight from their kitchen to your flybridge.
It's not the only place like that in HR btw, but that's one of those which we don't want to miss during our route.
And I know for sure that also Deleted User enjoyed it in his Croatian days! :encouragement:
 
Mike, we agree and I am sure there is a business model there somewhere. As you know you can order from Plage Mala, but that isn't much help between the Lerins. With La Tonnelle only open for lunch and La Guerette on the other side of St Magurette its a busted flush.

I think we need a bespoke threat on Med eating establishments and capture who delivers and who doesn't. I know that some of the Villefranche places do, but we haven't ever used any of them. We need some sort of builder like person to come along and make comment....

Oh yes. Should I tell them where it is? Perhaps not. Dont want the hoi polloi knowing about the place;)

We turned up in our boat in the afternoon and parked on their quay FOC. The owner then took us out to his lobster pots in the middle of the bay in his RIB, pulled up a pot and invited us to choose our dinner. The poor unsuspecting creatures then appeared a few hours later at the back of our boat

All this talk about Croatia just reminds me what a fantastic cruising area it is. We really must go back

Thats a great idea. Many of us organise our cruising schedule according to our stomachs and I for one would like to be armed with information about good restaurants and especially those that deliver in different anchorages and ports. I would extend that to other food services too such as where you can get groceries delivered to the boat, ice creams and even rubbish collection

Btw who does onboard meal deliveries in Villefranche?

LOL, 'course not. I already made the mistake of mentioning the island... :cool:
I hopefully will take a pic soon with the DP in the same spot and from the same position, to match yours.

Time being, I can only offer the following blast from the past.
These were taken during my last days in Croatia, back in 2006, before heading towards the heel of Italy with the very same final destination that we have now.
Looking at the pics, I had the feeling to have taken them yesterday evening. Geez, time DOES fly...! :D

Moored just about in the same position as yours, just taken from the other side of the same dock...

PS: as an aside, I'm always impressed at how the Fer 53 (as well as some other models of the same vintage) still looks very modern, 20 years or so after she was designed. They really did something right, back in those days.
Btw, I'm told that after the financial hangover, they are now back to proper boatbuilding principles... Good for them! :encouragement:

Yes youre right. I looked at that photo myself and also thought that Ferretti hit the spot with the F53. I hope that Ferretti are getting back to their old ways. Where did you hear about that? Some of the new Ferrettis I've seen at boat shows in the last few years have been a touch disappointing (but you could say that about a few builders)

From an engineer involved (as a subcontractor) with the 920 construction. And before you ask, nope, he wasn't hoping to sell me one! :D
I guess that since also jfm mentioned in some post that model as one of his current favorites confirms that it can't be too bad...

Well, who cares if it doesn't?
As I was told, they managed to fit that 28+m ship into the 24m rule with the usual tricks, so you wouldn't even need a captain.
