Under water lights

I’m not a big fan of drilling holes in the hull but when we get the boat lifted I was thinking about putting 2/3/4 lights at the stern, has anybody done this, any recommdations, problems ?
 
Love the 4x Lumishores on current boat had a set on previous boat too. Kids love em great for night swims and backing in to berth at night. Installed both sets ourselves - tiny holes in hull for wire . Good company -engineers will make time to talk to you.
 
+2 for the Lumishore surface mounted lights which only need a small hole for the cable. I first fitted Lumishore lights some years ago and they did fail regularly but I've noticed that the latest units seem to last longer

+3 for Lumishores. I fitted them myself, not an overly difficult job, routing the cable was the hardest part. They are great for attracting fish, mackerel fishing at midnight is very rewarding!

iirc a 8mm hole for the cable in the middle, plenty of marine silicone (I use Sika 291i) job done. I recon you don't even need the iirc 3 screws!
 
in 2013 I fitted 4 x Lumishore THX120 (the most powerfull thru hull model at that time) 9000Lumen max (all collors on = white)
I think 4 or 5 lights is the right number for the transom of a 21m length, 5,4m beam boat
the lights haven't failed since then, (controllers might need a reset occasionally, when there have been spikes on the DC supply)
Today I would install the most powerfull available model (the red collor of my model was slightly weak)
in Reality I only use Blue collor, but its fun to show all collors to kids (and some type of guests :) )
for a night on anchor they are a nice to have item !
for a night swim or a skinny dip, they are indispensable ;)

I'll say it from the cheap seats ?

I always think there is a fine line between classy and chavvy. All the lights I see fall into those two buckets.

I also think the environ'mentalists will be along soon enough to say they should be illegal for keeping the crabs awake. :LOL:
 
Lots of research that LED street lighting is damaging birds. I'm sure the same applies to the poor fish. Next time your trying to get to sleep I'll come a shine a search light through your bedroom window ;-)

Just enjoy the natural environment for what it is. Nothing better than a beautiful moonlit evening in a quite secluded anchorage ;-)

I suppose your car and boat run on electric motors?
 
I've always reckoned underwater lights are installed by people who wear a gold medallion and a chest wig. I've just bought a new boat that has blue lights out the back and I'm afraid to say they're really rather nice. I'm saving up for the medallion but I can't find a chest wig anywhere !! ......... :cool:

I'm on the fence with underwater lights. They do remind me of the 'Max Power' brigade - kids driving around in the 90s with under-car lights. I can see the appeal of a night time illuminated dip at anchor but I have seen many people who keep them on in port at night, cycling through the colours. This practice is very naff IMHO
