Can anyone recommend an undelete utility (preferably free) for Windows XP. Who's a silly boy then? Have had a trawl of the web but could use a personal recommendation.

You've probably checked already, but has the stuff you want back left the 'Recycle Bin' yet? If it has then whether you get your beloved back will depend how long it was since you lost it, as the operating system will start to use what it sees as spare storage. I've used Norton successfully in the past but can't recommend anything now.

The Xp system restore basically resets the registry. It doesn't recover deleted files, it doesn't roll back any user files or email messages, so these stay exactly as before the restore

Yeah I know but he didn't say what he had lost. It was just a thought if he had deleted a programme.....

Quite a few on web, demo's etc for finding deleted files, depends on what you,ve deleted as some are designed to find specific types of files

Thanks Stephen,

I had already found this one and have now used it. As you say, it's free and works well. Only drawback, you can't tag multiple files for simultaneous restoration.

Thanks again to all,

Dave
