Un 'potting' Lewmar bow thruster controller

I am today looking to replace my Lewmar bow thruster control panel http://www.lewmar.com/node/11687?v=25392
for the third time.... making it the fourth panel in just over 5 seasons.

I thought I may have to search hard to find similar instances but, perhaps not to my surprise, there are many of us coming to the surface complaining about this item at the same time.

To get by recently, I cut open the previous panel which I kept in case I needed to try and resurrect one from two.
I did that by cutting open the side of the panel and replaced the thin 'clicky contactor' by sliding out the faulty part and in with an old part that still 'clicked'.

That lasted about 3 weeks and now the whole panel has gone dead.

Why not fit a Sidepower 8955G? Similar panel, but possibly better engineered. Wiring is the same, although some colours may be different. Red and black are the same; the other two colours are the left and right signals. Similar price - see http://bowthrustersdirect.com//product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=93

Why not fit a Sidepower 8955G? Similar panel, but possibly better engineered.
