Ultrasonic anti-fouling

Future sales

Yes Bitman, i received this today too and have sent a scathing email to them, i suggest everyone else does too. Not sure what to do next, what does everyone else think?

'Father Christmas' was asked to deliver two of these to me. I don't think 'he' has placed the order yet.

I am sorry that you have been one of the 'guinea pigs' for this and I hope that it works out for you. I doubt that I am the only person who has not ordered one/two yet - you might want to let them know about this thread. You never know, it might help!!

Good luck

I got the same message - word for word - same spelling mistakes and everything. Not sure what to do. I haven't done anything yet. Perhaps the answer is to cancel the order, buy the magazine article, and find out where to source the components from.

Hi
As i mentioned earlier, i have replied to their email but i have now also emailed their UK address (techstore@jaycarelectronics.co.uk)
Hopefully i will get a quicker response from them due to the time difference. I have mentioned our forum and pasted a link to this post, explaining that they are now getting bad press to a wide audience and asking them if they would like to respond on this forum.
Perhaps others could also apply pressure to show they are affecting a wide ranging audience

Well done Bitman, you beat me too it

Have just sent an email to cancel order and refund monies to credit card before I get the increased fees email.

Lets see what happens now. :(

I am sorry for the shabby treatment.
Jaycar is an Australian company that I have always found deals with its customers fairly, but it seems not in this case.
The UK price did seem to be much lower than it should be. I guess someone screwed up.

This is the message I received:
Thanks for your order however, the order JUK133083 is on hold because the item you’ve ordered KC5498 weights 4.10KG so the total shipping fee was

116.75GBP but you’ve already made payment for the shipping fee 20.GBP so you need to pay extra 72.30GBP for the shipping fee.

If you would like us to process the order through then please leave your credit card details on techstore@jaycar.com.au or myself mjung@jaycar.com.au or free call on 1800 022 888.

I am looking forward to hear from you soon.

I am going to cancel the order. It must be possible to source the parts in the UK.

Has anyone obtained the circuit diagram yet?

P.S. I don't think much of their maths or their ethics.

Email to Editor Silicon Chip

Hi Everyone ..

Bit dissappointed like everyone else ..

SO ..

Have emailed EDITOR of Silicon Chip Magazine and asked if we can get copy of wiring diagram and parts list etc ..

See what happens ..

Nothing ventured nothing gained .. :)

Have also included a link to this Forum Topic

if something sounds too good / cheap, be aware and get over it ;)

Get over it!

We are discussing ways of sourcing a new product that some of us have invested pennies in.

We are not wanting to 'Get over it'' !

We are rationally trying ways to find a solution.

If your mind is really that negative,i would open the Xmas sherry !

Not over it.....not there yet!

Over what?

if something sounds too good / cheap, be aware and get over it ;)

To be honest it didn't sound too cheap and the postage (to me anyway) appeared reasonable. I think I can speak for the others in saying we were disappointed by the way the company tried to apply a supplement to the advertised price. We have nothing to get over and are just trying to find an affordable solution to the problem of fouling.

Regarding the costs of postage, earlier this year I had to post some equipment to John Perry (Stingo II) in Prickly Bay, Granada.

The three pieces weighed in at about 5.9kgs and I packaged them up, wrote the address label, etc, etc.

I then phoned UPS and a couple of others including Parcelforce. The cost, something like £150 with nothing between them regarding costs.

Serendipity, then came into play and on another topic, I needed to phone my village Post Office. I berated the Postmaster with my problems and he knew exactly what the problem was.

Once you go over 2kgs in weight, the cost of postage rises exponentially, hence the high price!

He told me to split the parcel into three parcels (one of three, two of three, three of three) and keep the weighs below 2kgs . . . . . !

the cost . . . . . less than £40 for the lot. :D

Now, where's the circuit diagram, I wanna make one! :D :D :D

There may be a way round this. I am waiting for a reply to my e-mail to the company, but the drawings and circuit diagram seem to be available by downloading two copies of the magazine, at quite a small cost. if, as I suspect, all the parts can be bought in the UK we can make up our own kits. There may be a purpose designed printed circuit board required, but we could probably have a small batch made up.

What we need is someone who is much more clued up on electronics than I am to study the design and work out what we need. Perhaps we should start up an electronic antifouling builders group? If we do that we might be able to bulk buy the parts to make all the sets everybody needs, and organise making the PCBs.
