Royal Cork Yacht Club, Crosshaven established in 1720 is the oldest yacht club in the world.

The Royal Southampton Yacht Club is one of the oldest established in the country, receiving its Royal Charter in 1875.

Harwich Yacht club. This club is one of the oldest of its kind in England and Queen Victoria was an honorary member.

Starcross on the Exe, 1772, is one of the oldest if not the oldest in the UK

A youngster - the Royal Victoria was set up for Queen Victoria in 1845 so that she could be a full member of a club as the Yacht Squadron didn't allow women to be members, even if they were queen.

i think the royal dee [chester] could be in contentiion. met the then commodore whilst cruising in ireland a few years back.he laid claim to this honour /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Royal Dee was founded in 1815. It is a mere youngster. here

Interesting that a club which is interested in offshore racing is so relatively far inland. (Well, it's not on the coast )

Any idea what happened to the "New Thames Yacht Club"? It was in existence in 1891, and I just wondered if you knew what became of it. Renamed??
