UK MMSI Number application

Hello All,

I just re-registered my radio license (following the purchase of another boat with an old DSC fitted), at Ofcom by simply altering it and all seemed fine, untill I read this thread! I thought that the MMSI and Callsign were unique to me so thought nothing of the form filling in. Having read the posts above it seems I am wrong and that I do not need to remove the radio as I was about to......?

I am now confused as in the manual for my SIMRAD RD68 on page 8 it says "If the boat or the RD68 are subsequently sold, the radio must be returned to an authorised SIMRAD agent for the MMSI number to be erased and the new owner's MMSI number entered"

Surely this completely contradicts the experiences of everyone posting here?

It almost sounds simpler just to buy a new radio.....?????

You can re-register the MMSI in your name; there's no need to reprogram the radio. I've done it.

Sorted! Thanks PRV - I called them in the end (OFCOM) and as I had the new boats MMSI, they were able to give me the call sign that goes with it and I then had to submit a new license application - I was going wrong in trying to alter my existing one! If anyone needs the link - here it is -

when all else fails use the phone. i registered a new yacht with new radio, all seemed to go well. just wait for update to account ,computers said.
I already have another yacht with call sign and mmsi. so have an account. nothing appeared so after another week rang them.luckily phone calls from india are cheap , after about 10 minutes and at least 3 please hold sir,s . the reply was please) log on in 1 hour and it was so. printed and down load no problem.
