UK Catamaran Crew Rescued in Biscay

Not wishing to pre judge at all and not knowing the full facts, but "broken down" and "needing to abandon" seems a leap from one to the other. They were still afloat it seems so it'll be interesting to learn the full facts.

I also thought that 1 knot in bad weather in a catamaran implied that were successfully veering a drouge (or all their rigging) so look forward to the whole story - always worth seeing if there is anything we can learn to prevent the need to be rescued.

Great that they are safe.

be interesting to hear the full story , a 45 ' catamaran , i expect there are those who are already showing some interest in the location . ;)

Video of the rescue (better turn the sound off :sneaky: )

Don't know how these FB links work, if they are available or not, this other was from Salvamento Twitter account

According to FB 'broken' not 'broken down'.

Plywood self build might (or might not) be a clue.

shame , it looks like a nice boat and has already given some good service ,, on the rescue vid there is no obvious visible damage so recovery and repair may well be a possability.

Thanks for that. When I wrote my comment the facebook page wasn't around and I was going off the initial report. But there's always someone queuing up to correct you on here when you get it wrong isn't there. That why I like it here :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:: Plywood?? :):)

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to be an annoying pedant! ?

According to the link above plywood which isn't such an extreme building material, I guess and ideal for a home build. 50 years ago would have been totally unremarkable. Judging from the website Great bloke, great project - even machined his own blocks.

Good to hear of a successful rescue.
Rosie Swales (as was) rounded Cape Horn in a self-built plywood cruising cat, in the 60's, with husband, baby and a toddler on board. Pre- GPS, and pre-disposable nappies!

nothing wrong with plywood if used properly , nor self built if done properly , so the inference is unjustified
Of course if done properly but a factory built boat is much more of a known quantity so it’s reasonable to question the homemade design and build when a boat gets into trouble - as a possible but not of course definite cause.
