Thanks. It seems a bit old fashioned that I have to telephone. Calls cost a $1 a minute from out here and we all know how long a conversation with a UK Civil Servant can take!
It seems the national yachtline can only be called from within the UK and my emails bounce back from public.enquires@homeoffice.qsi.gov.uk. Eventually got a number for immigration 00448706067766 but they close 4.45pm UK time.
I want to notify immigration before I arrive and then contact them again on arrival.
Boy they make thing difficult.
Provided your crew has all the necessary visas for the UK, based on personal experiemnce I would not bother to pre-advise them, just call the national yachtline number once you have arrived in your first British port or first thing in the morning.
In my case (South African arriving from France on my own boat) National Yachtline told me to go to the harbour master and fill out form no. xyz which was the wrong form number (leaving the UK) and post it to them. In the absence of any other available Immigration form I then moved to the next port Brighton where a friendly young lady in the marina office called Immigration (now called Border Agency) three times to finally be told by the local Head of Immigration that I needed to fill out form xyz123 but that he had not seen one in about 10 years and that I should enjoy my stay in the UK.
