I noticed lately, that one of my GPS's says I am at an altitude of 8m regularly and occasionally at an altitude of 11m.

I thought I had a boat of 22tons, but now since I am floating around above the water, I am not sure anymore.

How serious is this? So far, as I can tell, no other boat has passed below me.

regards ongolo

How big are the tides you have been sailing in.

GPS works from chart datum.

On my GPS I can set the height of the antenna above sea level via the 'menu' options. Try setting yours to the actual antenna height and you may have the carpet pulled out from under you! Good luck...

"How serious is this?"

It can be serious if it gets worse. We have enough to do when sailing, plotting tides, leeway, crossing shipping lanes etc. It adds an extra dimension (literally) if we also have to adhere to air traffic control rules and stay in the civil aircraft flight corridors.
