Typical MDL

On Thurs last I arranged to have her lifted and pressure washed 1 hour on the straps to also give me chance
to change the anodes. Penton Hook MDL. Heres typical MDL, I sailed in early Jan paid handsomely for Jan
Feb & March at monthly rates cos their "season" does'nt start until April, and told them of my intention to
stay and take out a further year. Have paid now for the 12 months starting April £2.8K

Anyway when they gave me the rate for the lift out I asked "is that a berth holders rate" and they said no cos
its still March and I'm only classed as a monthly berth holder. I said hang on I've just paid for a further year
from April and they said that does not count, cos you've guessed it "the season has'nt started yet".
I said can't you take into consideration my future patronage and the £2.8K and the answer was NO.

Contact John Watson at MDL Hamble HQ with this story. He would be interested - he is the new MD and comes from a customer service background....seems like a good guy to me.

Outrageous.

Thats one of the worst bits of customer service info I have seen on this forum, definately raise it with MDL at a higher level. If I ran a company and I new one of my staff was treating a customer like that I would sack them.

Would someone please help me down off this soap box now.......

burgundyben, coolest of men, by all I'm called, cool burgundyben.

Do what I did vote with your feet and tell them to p*** off, plenty of cheaper moorings about if you shop around and they at least have the decency to smile when they stiff you.....

Do boats grow?

I remember when we were in Penton hook a few years ago. MDL used to measure every boat each year, to see if it has grown. Fortunately I was told otherwise, they do it to see if you’ve added davits to your boat, then your charged extra.

Re: Do boats grow?

I removed mine recently reduced the boat from 12.9m to 12m saved me nearly £300. By the way
Broom say LOA 37ft x .304 = 11.25m Imust have .75m bathing platforms which is 2ft 5.5"
pretty big huh.

They actually they measure right the the very end of the guard rail at the bow.

The other thing this year is that they want paying for the Annual mooring that starts 1st April - by the 15th March!

Why they cant take the payments on the 1st April - well its MDL after all.

One-sided point of view Mike. You conveniently forgot to mention that we (MDL)stopped asking customers for deposits this year which was in direct response to customers comments.

Thanks Keith. I do indeed understand customer service (Rome wasn't built in a day though!)

Re: AOB

Hello John

I posted bout med mooring on the Scuttlebutt site - highlighting the problems there as result of selling long leases in the med - fewer visitors berths. Any thoughts?

The suspense is killing me - what will MDL finally do? I do hope we get to see the answer! BTW how big is the boat in question?

Take the whole lot on the 1st April and no questions asked. I do not even have a problem with the deposit and I have not been consulted.

All you have to do is adopt a sensible direct debit scheme over the whole 12 months and I suspect most people would sign up to that and just let it roll year to year.

An interesting point perhaps (I may be wrong but I dont think so) is that if you take all this cash within March, you may have to pay the VAT straight out to C&E as it falls within last VAT QTR of 2001 and therefore VAT is due.
If you had left it until 1st April, you would have been in new financial year and would have been able to sit on the cash for a Quarter.

Direct Debit

Don't encourage the b*ggers! Our marina DD scheme charged effective interest at 15% - roughly twice/2.5 times bank rate.

It does puzzle me this payment in advance and the timing. Cash appears as Creditor & reduces Net Current Assets (assuming year end is April which is the case for most of 'em) but does reduce year end bank borrowings which might reduce their gearing which might get the banks a tad worried otherwise?
