Having lived by the Thames in Barnes for my first 30 years, and now resident in a Sussex village, I miss the river much.
I have just bought a little 22ft Kestrel moored in Weymouth......but now wonder if I should buy something else as well for a little relaxed cruising upriver.

It would have to be cheap, cheerful and easily moored/stored. I am opening an office in Southwark in April, within 200 yds of the river - so I am smitten.

So, is this a practical thing to do, two craft?
Really nice to read the posts about the old Thames.

A berth near Southwark will have to be in a Marina as there are little or no moorings available on the tidal Thames. Even if swinging moorings were easy to come by you would need something reasonably substantial to get to the boat due to the tidal flow. Which then begs the question where do you store that?
Nearest convenient moorings I guess would be at St Katherines or South Dock.

Two boats is fine, SWMBO did tell me off for five at one stage! I'm not sure that something kept in South Dock (St Kats has a narrow tide window) would be cheap and cheerful and also be comfortable for a run up to the non-tidal parts unless you went for >25' and with a bit of grunt in the engine department.

Two Boats

Advise would be to keep it around Teddington and use it non-tidal when you get the chance.
The Tideway is very limited for small boat use, and can be a bit hostile if things go wrong (as they do), as I'm sure you know.

Yes, my intention would be to store/moor at Richmond, Ham or above the lock.
'Southwark' was a bit of rambling from me :)

5 boats!!!
That's the way to make an impression at home!

Thanks for the replies.

I have 2 boats, the main one in Calais and a small motor boat on a trailer which I use on the Thames around Oxford. Works well for me. Having said that we didn't use it last year at all on the Thames. Maybe this year.
