Twister or CO 26

It's worth looking at a Halcyon 27 as well, more volume than a Co26, standing headroom, better value, similar performance. Just look for a good one (like I bought 7yrs ago). Is Co26 RTIR success widespread, or possibly because of specific helm/crew?

One boat, stripped almost bear, good handicap - no one would describe them as fast by any objective measurement. Sweet as apple pie to look at, but how much comfort, size and sailing ability are you prepared to swap for those looks?

Twisters get to race in cowes classics. Just saying.

Nice boat, but if you are happy with a long keel, why not look at a wooden version?

I think someone said that they have a very, very generous handicap.

I think it's more to do with the handicap being at about the right level (i.e. the boat has just the right slowness) to make maximum use of the tide when racing around the island, especially if the wind plays ball. It helps that the Co26 that has won the race a few times (Rosina) was sailed by an exceptionally good sailor and crew. Nice bloke too :-)

You could also look at a Honeybee which is almost identical to the Twister. There is one for sale in the back of PBO, located on little Cumbrae in the Clyde IIRC. I own one and they are a sturdy little boat. Handle well and can survive a good thrashing. Sail a lot better than one might think but don't point particularly high.

Lovely boats. As far as I know, Rose of Mearns is for sale at the moment. She's an utterly gorgeous Honeybee and is the only boat I know to have been based in Port Bannatyne since I learned to sail there as a child until now. I hope she stays in the bay, though.

That's why I said I don;t know if she is still for sale. I'm pretty sure she was last year, and she was still in the shed at Port Bannatyne a couple of weeks ago. Also the ad hasn't been unposted. The one on Cumbrae went on the market at about the same time. Quite odd to have two relatively unusual boats for sale simultaneously a few miles apart.
