I've been looking at a Catalac 10M which has got the ideal layout for me, good reputation and twin engines to boot but can't find a good one in this country at a reasonable price (or even an unreasonable one). Does anyone know of a similar design costing up to about £60k ? The twin engines are important in my tight marina and need at least 2 bright twin berth cabins. The ocean going reputation of the Catalac 10M also appealed to me for future plans.

Have you considered the possibility of a single engine ( more space available) and a bow thruster ?
 
I think the Catalac is unusual in having those lovely forward berths where you can lie in bed at anchor with a cup of tea and watch the world go by, or wildlife or whatever. It always surprises me that even with large expensive boats few have this feature in their accomodation and most have berths that are deep down looking up at hatches and lights!
Good choice of boat, I too would love one of these.

Just checking - have you sailed a Catalac? I ask because they have something quite unusual in cats - a hull speed limit. The hull forms are deep, wide V and create bow wave in a way that few multihulls do. They are spacious and seaworthy but don't expect speed.

A similar size and type of boat is the Ocean Winds - 33 ft, big sister of the Heavenly Twins. A few on the market around £30k.

My 9m can trundle along at 6 knots when enough wind is slightly forward of the beam. Not sure whether that is 'fast' nowdays but in the 70's when designed it was good going for a crusing boat - even a cat.
 
Thanks for your comments folks, I've just looked up the Ocean Winds and it looks a possible but haven't seen the berths in the photos. As catalac08 says, the forward berths are very desirable and one of its key features. I dislike claustrophobic and airless cabins particularly with plans to sail hot climates.

I'm not looking for a racing cat, my plans involve slowing down and relaxing. The hull speed therefore is well behind comfort and practicality. The bow thruster idea is a possibility but doesn't quite the benefits of twin engines.

If you can find a Commanche, it should fit the bill. The two engines and a decent anchor winch allows almost 3d movement and moving.
Displacement speeds, and will go to windward,[even better with one of the engines on] but very comfortable and will fit in Brittany canals.
Mind you I am biased, and mine is not for sale, but can demonstrate, if you want to come to Portland.
 
Thanks for the suggestion. The ones I've seen are quite old so I'll keep looking. From what I've seen the cabins aren't as nice as the Catalac 10M. I'lll try to spot a newer one to look at. Thanks again.
