Twin/bilge keels, what to expect?

Boatmike, I very much agree with you. We experienced a lot of problems getting close enough to get ashore in the french canals last year with our Moody ketch having a draft of 1,8. Still we sometimes did better than smaller boats with less draft because of our 4m + beam. Obviously 1,8 m draft 2 meters from the bank is better than 1,5 m draft only 1,6 meters away! And even worse with a BK as you say. I didn´t think about that!

Any suggestion of any nice lift keelers apart from Southerly (a bit ugly) or Ovni (expensive) suitable for long distance cruising with good loading capabilities, strong engine and preferrably a wheel shelter or deck saloon?

In Sweden, despite all rocks, lift keelers, cats and BK´s are a very rare sight!
