TV reception/aerials

I am thinking of fitting a small plasma screen TV and wonder whether I should fit a permanent aerial at the top of the mast or just set up a satellite dish when I want to watch tv. Any views?

For some reason beyond my understanding, TV reception is incredibly bad in marina's. My guess is that it is because of all the masts on raggies, so before you spend all your hard earned cash on a hi-tech aerial/dish/gizmo, check that you can get decent reception with a standard aerial first. Then deposit all the money you saved by not buying the clever gizmo into my cruising fund bank account. Send me a PM for my bank details. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

No matter what type of boat you have the humidity is going to be much much higher than at home...are you sure your plasma screen is up to it?

As Stingo says, settle for less and help pay the cost of our new engine.

Seriously, have been using a PC with TV card and LCD 15" flat screen for four years and no problems but we do live on her and it is the Med. The screen folds up out of the way, we use the PC for internet,e-mails,faxes , DVD,digital photo's and all printing and copying work. Trade "office" type work for other trades.

You can purchase a similar set up now for under a £1k and get multi useage. Have an amplified aerial half way up mizzen and as we change location we retune TV card and have a choice of different stations.

A digital dish can be difficult to set up and you won't always have the space, but if only normally on the boat for a few days at a time do you really need it anyway, for what we seen back here in the last few weeks there's nothing worth watching...bit of an oldy I'm afraid.
