Anyone fitted a projector version?
Seems to answer the problem of bulkiness. Projector kept in a locker and a pull down blind type screen?

I used to have a projector but they are power hungry. We now use a big old laptop as when closed it goes into a locker easily, and 4G.

I have no particular desire for a big screen on board, but a few years ago a friend brought a small portable projector on a cruise. It seemed to work quite well for a “film night” halfway through, just for a change.



The image looked better in person than it does in the photo - though still with a grab-handle in the edge of it! Obviously a dedicated screen rather than a section of bulkhead would fix this, and probably improve the image quality further.



I’ve no idea what model of projector this was - and it was 2014 according to the photos so it would irrelevant for buying now anyway.

Obviously a miniature low-power unit like this will only work well at night - but that’s presumably when you’d want to be watching it anyway.

The mind boggles.
Surely that's on a level with brahn sauce in a Michelin restaurant or playing pacman at an LSO concert.
Or is it a tin slug, in which case I can understand the need for artificial entertainment.

Well, as I said, it’s not something I’d remotely consider carrying as standard. Books, conversation, and a well-stocked drinks locker do me quite nicely. But, brought out of a friend’s kit and plugged into the 12v socket, it was a fun novelty for one night in a ten-day cruise. It played films off a USB stick plugged straight into the back, no computer required.

If you have children with you who are not too keen on sailing, could buy you a few hours of peace.

Works well. Bright image. Poor built in speaker so you would need a Bluetooth speaker or plug in with a 3.5mm jack.
Pulls about half an amp.
I have tried various screens. The best is the three plastic layers taken out of a broken flat screen tv. Flexible enough to roll up and put on a shelf.

Tvs are too in your face.
Laptops and tablets are great but sometimes a bigger screen is easier to get the whole family around.

The projector takes a micro sd card so I can pre load movies. But most of the time we watch Netflix. It's got an android os like a smart phone. I use my phone to create a hot-spot.

The kids watch a movie to wind down before bed while the wife and I have a drink.
