TV on board

as said be careful of the charge for the download

i had to give in to the TV on board, corrieetc.. arrrrg.

70 quid flat screen from teaco, glomex aerial at top of mast and a 12v booster, freeview built in and all clear and no freeze up.
Well - it's important to be able to catch up on the soaps whilst single handing x channel - between naps ... ;)

@ Dogwatch

I do care passionately what other people do in their own saloons! So as requested here are some rules ....

1. Dress code.

Everyone should only wear nautical clothing, and I don't mean Helly Hansen or Musto, think more Captain Birdseye or Pirates of the Caribean.

2. Food

Dry biscuits with weevils. .... and Rum. Fish, sea turtles and deep fried sea-horse if you can find it - I hear it will soon be extinct.

3. Games

Oh .. a difficult one. How about pin the boat on the admiralty chart. It's quite easy to play, everyone huddles round the chart guessing where they might be. Then some bright spark spots the tin-foil which wrapped itself round the GPS antenna when the cook threw it overboard. Hey-presto the plotter then tells you the answer. Winner gets a tot of rum.

Will that do .... ;)

www.tvguide.co.uk It looks like it is only a listing site but click on watch in the left hand column for real-time streaming.

4od is like iplayer for ch 4.

itvplayer for ...errr... ITV :)

and demand five for channel 5

skyplayer gives you your home package over internet. I think it might be free if you have sky ultimate broadband, or a multiroom subscription - cant find out how much it is otherwise.

We have a fantastic TV. It is natively 12V/24V will pick up Freeview, Analogue, radio, has inputs for video, has a card reader to display images from your digital cameras etc and a built in DVD that you can make multi-region. Best of all ours came with a wall mount for the boat, but you might need to buy this as an accessory now, it is worth asking because the one supplied is small and swivels so takes into account healing. It is simply brilliant.

I agree. We have the same thing. Very high quality.

Have in fact just ordered one on the internet. Question.... I assume with the sucker mounted ariel it's going to be pretty directional so only any good when on a pontoon or alongside. There are omni directional ariels but I am told the reception with these is not as good. How sensitive do you find the adjustment of direction of the ariel to be in practice?

I haven't tried that one, as we have a mast-top aerial. Sorry. However, I did try it with a cheapo wire one on a short cable and found it was ok on analogue but rubbish on digital. May have been where I live/cruise though. I guess you just have to try it.

Avtex also sell a very nice padded carry bag, which we use to store the tv on the boat. It is quite big and unless you have a safe spot for it I think the bag is a good investment.

Freeview

Freeview works a lot better this year in the South West since they turned off analogue and presumably boosted the digital signal. Not perfect but much better and a lot better than 3 3g.
