TV/Internet

that is exactly what long wet winter Sundays are for.

Amen to that!

Thing is, I have the 100gb package too - the data cap for roaming ONLY applies to Unlimited packages, not to the limited packages. So you / me are free to use 100gb of our 100gb data allowance when roaming, but if we're on an unlimited package, this falls to 25gb. The reason I'm so keen to find an unlimited roaming plan is that the kids can easily chew through 100gb in a week or so but we spend 6 weeks there over the summer. Current solution is a French sim @ 100gb per month, plus my Vodafone @100gb and the same for my wife. As you, I used loads of data when roaming and have never been charged.

FYI, this is copied from Vodafone's current T&Cs that can be seen here https://www.vodafone.co.uk/cs/groups/configfiles/documents/document/vfcon103103.pdf

Interesting........

The full terms and conditions I have printed out from the Mobiles.co.uk / Vodafone website make no mention at all on data caps

Time will tell, it may be an omission on their part, there is no mention of any other T & C's being applicable.

John - I did have a play with the RPi as a security camera - I think I used the same camera as well.
I found that the RPi got a bit hot and the failed after a few hours.
But whilst playing with the RPi's camera, I came across these:-

It is a ESCAM G02 - probably better models available now (I've been using then for a couple of years) but a quick search on eBay finds them in China for about 20 quid.
Includes full pan and tilt - if you want a remote camera its a no brainer - no need for a VPN but be careful about security.

This pic taken whilst typing this post - dark out in SC at the moment!!!

Thanks Mike, they look good; I have 7 RPi's in my box with various different models/set-ups using temp/pressure controllers, stepper motors, servos, motors and cameras, I must say the 4A seems almost good enough to use as a boat PC, with appropriate heat sinks and if coupled to a few RPi 0W's with cameras could be fun to setup.....

Just got back from the Vodafone shop. For the last two years I have signed up for a 30 day contract for a data only SIM, typically 50gb, after the season, I cancel the contract.
Vodafone now say that 25Gb is the maximum roaming on any current contract, so I’ve come away empty handed.
They also intimated that if I hadn’t cancelled the last contract, the old terms would have applied!
I wonder if Vodafone SIM’s provided by a third party eg mobile phones direct have different T&C’s

I can’t even connect my I pad to my phone via hotspot so no chance of getting any TV........will have to speak to wifey instead.

Yep, this is exactly the point I was making earlier in the thread to GSL - he inadvertently went from having 100gb roaming to 25gb roaming, so best to stay on a legacy plan. The best deal for France is still 100gb @ 19.95 euros per month, on a month by month contract with Free.fr. You can also downgrade to a 2 euro a month plan in the winter then turn it back up in the summer

Keep an eye out for passes, I had a vodaphone mifi, paid about £30 a month for 50gb, but added an entertainment pass which allows UNLIMITED roaming streaming for tv player, netflix , you tube and Prime for about 7 bones a month on top. Offer not on atm..but keep your eyes out for a similar deal.

An update

After a long line of dodging direct questions, Vodafone and Mobiles.co.uk finally admitted that Markc is correct, I had changed my 100Gb sim card for one that would only give me 25Gb when on the boat in Europe./

Solved the problem by returning the new sim and Vodafone cancelling the cancellation request on my old sim, which will still give 100Gb a month when in Europe.

Not very straight answers out there unless you push, but some hints were dropped a that a truly unlimited sim may be coming soon........ will keep a watch for it

Really glad you got it sorted and managed to get back on your old deal(y):)

In Spain I currently have a iphone 100Gb EE (UK) package which works well with iPlayer etc onto my iPad (My iphone is the hotspot) I push onto an old generation AppleTV box to my TV and the result is not great.
Can I just buy a £35 Amazon fire stick (which will run iPlayer etc) for the TV and wifi link it to my iphone?
Seems too easy a solution.

That should be fine as long as your plan allows tethering when roaming.

I‘ve just been looking at this which suggests things have moved on

Yep, iPlayer works on Fire Stick, and now you can also stream Amazon video to Chromecast. If you are abroad and using your UK mobile to tether, you can get UK progs, if you are on a local IP then not. I have tried Nord VPN on my Firestick and it's really hit & miss
