Apologies if this has been on the forum already, but the forum search facility is pretty hopeless...

Can only get analogue channels at present on the new telly. We have a so called 'digital' antenna/aerial which is stuck high up on the radar arch and is giving us a great picture on analogue, at Harleyford, but will not pick up any digital and therefore no freeview.

Assume that when the switchover occurs we will have no picture or service. Will we have to get a dish?

Think yourself lucky you get any TV signal at all, we are also there and due to the trees across on the Temple side cannot receive anything - have even tried the Satellite Dish.

Which part of Harleyford are you?

you can only receive digital if you have either a 'set-top' box, or a TV, which decodes the digital signals.

Your 'digital' aerial does nothing apart from pickup a signal. So you need a set-top box, or a TV with a built in decoder.

Have you checked your postcode here ?

You could try taking your TV home and tuning it there with the stronger signal. It may retain the channels once returned to the boat. You can then decide whether to upgrade the aerial.

After Switchover, the digital signals will be moved to the same frequency and power as the current Analogue signals.

BTW there is no such thing as a digital aerial

Thanks all for your answers-
TV is brand new digital HD ready with built in freeview and works fine at home with all freeview channels

Hi Apollo - we are opposite you. Our directional aerial is pointing to the far left corner towards Temple and is on a 12V booster. I was told Omnis struggle, so avoided them

Some / many of the "chalets" at HF seems to get some sort of signal (judging by the number of indifferent quality antennae (?sp) that can be seen.

HF is betwixt a signal from Crystal Palace and Hannington near Basingstoke. The marina has trees potentially blocking both signals. In previous years I've been able to get a digital signal from CP but only in the winter (but that's another story).

If you want to persevere with terrestrial, then I recommend a larger log periodic antenna (no pointy bits at the back). About £15 from CPC.

Best is to go for satellite; you know where the signal is coming from and there's more chance of getting a signal on the River - provided your dish can "see" 28.2 deg South of East.

Being a WSOB we're up the far end of the moorings where we can be hidden away (haha) and I can get a good signal by judiciously planting a dish through a gap in the trees.

Hope that helps.

That is pointless if he lives over ten miles from his boat as his local home station may not be the best at the marina.

He does meed a digi box if his receiver does not have free view built in and he may need a better antenna.

I found a small digi box in PC world which requires 5 volts so a power supply from Maplins used on the DVD player was used and it has so far withstood the higher charging voltages. It works well with my old mini lat screen. use a set top antenna in the cockpit,

Yes I could see you had a good picture via your wheelhouse windscreen last night.
If you could just turn the sound up, I then won't need to bother with mine!!
