TV arials

I can get some digital channels with good pictures, and fuzzy analogue. Without the omni aerial and booster, I would get nothing.

Take DVD's because there is not much worth watching on TV.

well i go out on my boat to get away from tv,s and dvd,s and std,s !!

Compromise

After mant years and unreds of pounds on many many solutions we have settled on the useless in the marins Glomax coz it works out at sea and is 12volt like the tele. In the marina we use a Lidle camping satalite with freeview which works very well unless its blowing a gale. We npaid about £60 for ours but they had them on sale last momth for £30.
The picture is digital quality but you find yourself adjusting it if its windy and you mount it to the sprayrail. It will work inside the camper canvass but we dont have a good place to mount it in there.

Cheers

Freeview USB stick??

Anyone tried one of those new Freeview USB dongle stick thingys from PC world ETAL..... cost around 35 squid...... ??????

Quite handy to plug into the lappy.....

I use a Glomex and it has worked OK to date but always use it with freeview. Some times can't get all of the channels.....

Would recommend going the freeview route which ever aerial you use....

Gavin - do you do your boating in the inland waterways? I ask as I have a similar aerial (see further up this page) and mine occasionally receives a reasonable picture at the top of the tide. Any other tidal state and it's garbage. Height above sea level seems critical for these to work properly.

I am on the inland waterways. would the signal may deterioraite the further you travel away from the coast???

I have tried a few options without success but then found the Magic Circle aerial (on Amazon) with a built in battery powered amplifier, it worked a treat with my freeview Tv. I also purchased a Digital signal meter (from Maplins) so I use that to find the signal with the Magic Circle aerial connected. I used it on the Beaulieu river recently on a swing mooring and to my surprise a clear picture.

Total cost was under £50 for both the signal meter and aerial.

The Aerial is nice and compact too.

Have the Glomex fitted to our boat, and it
is truely excellent. It manages to pull in all
the Freeview channels without any problems -
while moored on the Upper Hamble.

Whether any of those channels are worth watching
is a moot point!
