I'm looking for an omni-directional TV antenna that I could haul to the top of the mast to improve reception in poor areas. Any ideas & recommendations on what / where to buy?

I might be able to put you in contact with someone who is selling the complete kit. They have just returned from over the pond and are selling the boat and complete kit. The boat is in Hamble Point Marina. Hamble. Talk to Transworld Yachts the boat is a HR 36.

tis a little extravagant init!

Man goes out to buy aerial

Comes home with HR36

Oh no, sorry SBC Nigel, this wasn't a boring well behaved post. I hope you as our new moderator and spokesperson for all small boats, you do not get me banned.

Once again, sorry Nigel, I really do feel guilty about it, no I do!

You really do have a problem, don't you?

Why not fit a permanent one? I have fitted a triax based on Dogwatch's experience, and get a great picture.

Previously used a One For All flat aerial which I initially hauled up the mast about 10ft, then just hung it in the cabin. Picture was not too good, but OK whilst i was making the decision regarding the permanent one.

Yes, usually I would have spent time talking through my experiences and solutions if I found them. I have a bit of experience finding and fitting television aerials which is still fresh.

I feel I do try to help as much as possible and really enjoyed PBO as a media to learn and share. Occasionally I will also give a daft response, like others, it stops PBO taking itself too seriously, in my humble opinion.

Then, out of the blue people start really complaining about the forum and the types writing to it. Nigel seems to spend more time moaning than anyone else now. It was not directed right at me, but as a member of the forum I feel it was at me at the same time.

A kick in the teeth, we all own the forum, we all make it what it is. If it turns into a FAQ page I certainly will stop contributing, maybe a good thing in some peoples eyes. But I feel some may loose out as I have built a few boats (from moulds) and converted a couple. I am currently refurbishing and modernising my boat.

I have come across the problems and tend to keep all receipts and photograph stages. I do this sometimes to help others, sometimes for my own records.

The fact I am no longer allowed a little humour makes this a forum I do not wish to contribute to.

I recently wrote about my experiences here.

As Richard said, I also used to hoist a whole array of set-top type antennas up the mast, none of them gave a decent reception as well as the ghosting and rubbish picture every time the boat moves.

We made our big decision to fit a permanent aerial when I had a one for all perched on the edge of the hatch for easy adjust. It fell off and smashed a wine glass pouring red wine over my book on the table.

Fit a permanent one, there really is no comparison.
