TV aerial sorted - but a Freeview or Freesat TV

Bit puzzled by this thread: All the comments about FreeSat make no mention about the dish. This is not feasible on a boat - nor on a pontoon for that matter.
The dish requires to be absolutely rock solidly held, any movement and the signal is lost.

Pity really, I much prefer TV via the dish.

Hi PhilipF. In a previous post in this thread, I said the aerial would either be a KVH M3DX or a simple manual dish such as a Kerstan mini.

C A Clase (http://www.caclase.co.uk/index.html) says the M3DX would be fine, even if at sea. The output would need to be fed to a Humax box (or simialr, but most peeps seem to say this is the best) and from there to the TV for which I'd choose the Panasonic TX-L24X5B - it will just fit in the space available.

Does this answer your query?

That's what I used to think. I can assure you it is feasible, as I have a £50 sat dish and decoder on my boat and it works a tasty treat. ;)

We have both. More channels of rubbish on the freesat tuner, but gives us HD pictures. Difficult to tell the difference in reality. Yes we had about 15 BBC Olympic channels, few of them broadcasting.

I suggest you check your set up, there were 24 HD and 24 SD Olympic channels. Also, what size screen, if you couldn't see the difference between HD and SD?

Yes does actually, thanks. I did know about the Clase, but it was the price which properly put me off - thee and a half thousand pounds as I recall, could find no prices on the link you gave. Thus not surprisingly rare to find any on the type of boat the majority of us in these forums use, though not at all uncommon on say Sunseeker, or Princess models. Small change at the cost of them!

I you want "REALLY" then go for the SKY box rather than the Humax, the Humax is a Freesat box. The SKY box will give you all those Freesat channels plus your favorite and many more!

Of course you will have to pay a montly fee.
