Trophee Jules Verne 2024 is go!

Francois Gabart & Co, still at it aboard SVR: 28.9kt average, over the past 24hrs, on the tracker. 35nm ahead of Francis Joyon's record.

Not much footage coming back. So, here are Francis Joyon's 3 attempts, at the Trophee Jules Verne, compressed into 5 minutes. Including his 2017 record, an 894nm daily run, and iceberg slaloming. No enclosed cockpits, or foils, back then, either.......

Something doesn’t add up here: SVR tracker still has Francois Gabart & Co off Cabo Finisterre. 4 days after their start. In that time they should have covered 2700nm, at 28kts. Distance l’Ouessant - Cabo Finisterre, 300nm. And AIS has them moored outside MerConcept, in Concarneau, for the past 3 days……Another ‘abandon,’ I reckon….

Frustrating business, this Ultim sailing…..

BUT, the rewards are great, when it all comes together: Team Gitana are serialising Charles Caudrelier’s record breaking solo circuit, of the planet, in last year’s inaugural Brest Arkea Ultim Challenge. Part 1 brings Charles to the start line, after a few technical hiccoughs:

If at first you don't succeed, tri, tri and tri again (ha ha).......Francois Gabart & Co are having another crack, at lifting the Trophee Jules Verne

Presently making 30+ knots, just north of the latitude of Lisboa, on the tracker. If you are looking for some lighter news to follow.

SVR heading back, to MerConcept in Concarneau, tonight with foil damage. Sustained in 40kts of breeze, gusting 50, and a seastate to match.

Meanwhile, IDEC, the record holding (non-foiling) Ultim, is limbering up for a Jules Verne attempt later in the year. Alexia Barrier and Dee Caffari are co-skippers of 'The Famous Project,' all female, team
