Happy Birthday you troll. Two posts to go and whoever is was that ranted on about reaching another 1000 posts will be proved right.

....As I see it, these forums exist at 2 levels - as a fund of shared knowlege where folk with a common interest can ask advice or bounce ideas around, and as a "chat room" where people familiar with each other can joke and banter....

Once you start setting boundaries and defining a purpose for (these) (any) forums you are sliding down the slippery slope of disappointment and frustration......

Oh things will be changing all right (Dylan). This could be the winter of your discontent, we are all back on land, seasons

Well done dave,… I think

Why are you being so nice Brendan, stopit it unnerves me.
Erhumm .
I like to think I have never been a troll, but I shall always be a newbie as most of my posts go in the bin.
In the past on here I have been laughed at, complimented, shouted at, insulted, sneered at, tested, offered out, praised and thanked. I have had personal bolockings from very high ranking moderators aka Kim. I have also been swore at in English, French, Welsh, Cantonese and Swahili an for some reason I still come back for more,
I have been beaten up so many times on this forum that I have lost count, especially in PBO, so much so in fact that I have now learnt to be very careful with what I write ensuring that it is interesting, and never inaccurate, egotistical or controversial.

This however hasn’t stopped the beatings.

I see it as the other way around. Before the lounge was created, far more joviality went on in the main three boating forums, and the balance has, long term, gone from fun, frivolity and joviality, to mainly boating on those forums

Hmm... I'm sure you're right based on the number of threads, but there seems to be something different in the 'atmosphere' and the readiness with which people respond in a negative sense, rather than in a constructive manner. I hasten to add that I've always had constructive and helpfull answers to any questions I've posted!

Perhaps with losing some of the frivolity to the lounge, some of the good natured aspect of the banter in these forums has been drained away. (Although there are a few good ding-dongs in the lounge - "Toys all over the floor" LOL!).

Dunno - perhaps everyone's just tetchy cos the UK season is drawing to a close.

Interesting post, Mr. Stingo, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey! I know it's your birthday and all that, but we're meant to be discussing newbies and being nice to them.

Nobodys nice to me so why should I be nice to anyone ever ever again

scuse please , got to fetch teddy from the corner /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

one of that factors that made discussion of the idea of the lounge over the years quite heated. Many said it would detract from the atmosphere of the main forums, if all the non boaty threads and conversations were stuck in one forum.

Many others said that taking the non boaty threads out would improve readability for those that just wanted to read boating only threads.

Personally, I was one of the former, and I think the predictions were correct
