Hello everyone,

Some may recall that I sought advice here a year or so ago about trolling whilst sailing on our (too short) yearly charter in Greece.
Well we are off tomorrow evening and I really would like to try to save some "face" once again this year.
It's been a few years since I caught anything, and the last advice you kind people offered was that I should use "livebait" near fish farms - advice that was exactly what the "locals" suggested too, but the crew got bored and prefer to be on the move (well that's my excuse!)
This time I want to try to get my lures deeper, and wonder if any of you reprobates might have techniques that I do not know about?
I have a couple of deep diving lures, and together with "paravanes" - I think they are called (plastic jobs that drag the line into deeper water) I can get the lures down to maybe 10 or 15 ft, but maybe I need to fish deeper - and if so, how do you do it whilst sailing?
Can I expect to catch anything in September sailing from Kos this year, and would I have some chance of success with surface lures (those that splash and rattle a bit)

Thanks as always for any advice,

John.

We've used diving lures and surface lures with varying success. The best seem to be the 'muppets' that play on the surface in the boat's wake, we catch tuna within two hours of deploying these, and then have to spend several days eating it........
