Trojan batteries

So buying the Trojans is the easy bit. The charging seems to be the more technical challenge. Lets say i got x2 T105s to start with and mixed with the Aerogen and using the engine for say 1/2hr , 4 times a week, would that give the batteries a fighting chance? Obviously it depends how much juice i use in between! Yesterday i ran the engine with all the electrics off except the fridge and voltages were as picture.
Apparently Scott at Trojan is the man to speak to, so i'll phone him when he is back in the office.

Are there any other manufacturers of this type if battery or do Trojan have the market to themselves?

A fair number of US companies make direct equivalents because it's a design so widely used in floor scrubbers, golf buggies etc. But I haven't noticed any of them bothering with the marine market.

Edit for clarification - I'm referring specifically to the T105.

I spoke to Scott at Trojan this morning and he was very helpful. Very basically he confirmed that x2 T105s charged from my 50A alternator and Aero4gen would work perfectly. I guess my setup is probably similar to most average boats.

Scott like selling expensive batteries.
I went down this route 2 yrs ago in the end i decided on trojan THEN had a reality check & bought Alphaline. If i were to go world cruising the choice would have been Trojan

I don't understand, the Trojans work out cheaper/about the same as the so called 'leisure' ones!
 
Trojans £95 each but you need two (£190) =275Ah = 69p per Amp
Typical 12volt sort of leisure batt. say £80=110Ah = 72p per Amp

AND ... looked after, the Trojans will survive many 1000's more charge/discharge cycles than the typical 12volt sort of leisure batt.

So they are cheaper, last longer and hold more Ah than the typical 12volt sort of leisure batt...........Now the million dollar question... why don't we see them on the shelves in every chandler in the land????

I suspect on most boats the batteries are not subject to that many 000s of deep discharge cycles.. They are only cheaper if they are subjected to this high number of discharge cycles before they die of old age... or the owner does.

31XHS Trojan = £1.238

Ah, might explain the confusion. 31XHS are 12V batteries and I found them to be very much poorer value than 6V T105s being discussed so far. Trojan confirmed that the 12V models only had 1/2 the expected number of cycles vs. the 6V models. So more expensive and half the expected life. I can understand why you decided not to buy 31XHS batteries. I thought that you were talking about T105s initially.

Sensible enough, your decision wasn't made on price or performance of T105s versus leisure batteries at all. It was simply the fact that they wouldn't fit.

I reached a tipping point where it was worth the hassle of re-building the battery box. In fact the T105s were marginally smaller than spec. and I could have squeezed them in without change. It would have been tight, specs. said they were 2mm wider than the box and an exact fit on height. Turned out that I would have had 4mm spare on width and 10mm on height. Still, I have a nice roomy battery box now with small battens around the base and modest gaps to sides all around.
