What would be your evidence for that claim?
Tilman was the master of under rather than over statement.

Well done Old Varnish. This has flitted across my mind several times over the last few days.

Tilman may have changed a name or two to save blushes. He may have had (for all I know) a different view of events to others who were there...

....however if there was a man in the history of creation less likely to be accused of lies and bullsitt it has to be him.

Plus another one.
I rarely read fiction but if I want maritime fiction I read the likes of Conrad. If I want genuine cruising stories, for which I have an insatiable appetite, I read the likes of the Hiscocks with their exemplary accounts of world-girdling that I can admire, learn from and hopefully emulate to a much smaller degree.

I don't need a hotchpotch mixture that purports to be a true account but leaves me wondering at some unlikely incidents and the resultant suspect veracity with what seems a need to embellish and impress.

Thanks....

I found "Incredible Voyage" by chance in a charity shop...it is a fascinating insight into a lost world of communism as well as a wonderful tale.

It also inspired me to become a sailor.

Tristan, you old bugger...it's all your fault, thank you!
