Trisails & Storm Jibs

Hi one and all,

I need to get a Storm Trisail and Storm Jib to bring my boat up to RORC category 2. It's highly unlikely I'll ever use the trysail (the boat's a Dehler 34 and the storm jib alone should be fine) so does anyone know of a sail loft that has a vast selection of used trisails, one of which can live in a bag on my boat? Or even better, have one to sell me direct - no reasonable sail refused /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Re: Trisails & Storm Jibs

It is years since I last bought there, but I have had good second hand sails from Sea teach of Emsworth. One jib described as -fair condition- did two Atlantic crossings as a working staysail on our cutter.

Be aware you may have to demonstrate that you have the proper means to rig the trisail, so you might have to get it out of the bag and find somewhere to sheet it to...

Before the start of the last Fastnet everyone had to go through the 'gate' with their storm jib and trysail rigged. This year will probably be the same.

Thanks guys for the advice. It's not Fastnet, is the Dun Laoghaire to Dingle race (get to go around Fastnet though /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ). I'm aware of the need to sail though the gate on Fastnet but other than that and inspection, the trysail stays in the bag. I'll manage the lee helm.

Perhaps have a go with the Trisail in a blow one day. They are not hard to use and give a good ride. Saves a lot of strain on the more expensive main. I often used to break one out on deliveries returning racing boats back uphill to the start.

Good luck with finding a second hand one, but it is worth getting it to fit and getting used to it. All the best, David
