I need to buy a Volvo Penta Hydraulic Trim / Tilt pump for my 290 leg. I have a Bennett Trim pump, would that be compatiable for use with the 290 leg ?

Cheers

No the flow rate is too low on the Bennet pump and it doesn't generate enough pressure compared to the original pump.

If you could PM the contact details that would be great. I'm looking at a few in the States, including shipping its cheaper than the UK.

As always I'm looking for a more cost effective method, could I get away with a third party hydraulic pump which could generate the required pressure?

Another option would be if I could run without one (capping the pipes) and just use my Bennett trim tabs until I can afford one, would that be possible ?

Unfortunatly the engine / leg did not come with one. I did know this when I bought the engine so I've been keeping an eye out for a while know whilst I rebuild the engine.

I had my similar old Mercruiser unit reconditioned & repaired last winter. Much cheaper than a new unit. What is wrong with yours ? motor - strip & clean - valves ? or the pump unit itself - If the fluid is contaminated (with water) it won't help at all.

You could of course use without any pump - but you'll have no trim or lift facilty, and the drive might kick up on reverse. Bennett pump will be completely useless, as has been said before.

ps beware shipping from states - you'll get clobbered on VAT & handling fees by the shippers on anything of that value.
