Trim tab fitting position.

Hi, back again with another trim tab question (last one was about oversizing). The lenco set up I got mega cheap has 18x12 tabs which I was advised in the last post would be fine but which I now know will need cut down.
My issue is that the transom on my fairline weekender curves so I can only see 2 options for locating the tabs (cut down to 12x12) The outer position pictured would still require slight spacing blocks to fit flat. Which option would you recommend?
 
I would use epoxy filler. Sand area back to gelcoat, fill out proud and shape it back to give a flat surface for the trim tabs. Blend the upper edge into the transom.
Wood bits will swell and rot pretty quickly.

An interesting view. Drive and engine were fitted in 2005 by a Volvo specialist so I'd have thought they knew what they were doing. Engine is a D3 160 , tons of room in the engine bay though not height wise or at the rear. (I did a recent post about only being able to see the trim sender hole with a scope !) Boat handles fine.

Looks like a great upgrade package for a lovely classic boat. Excellent to see. Yeah…just thought it looked a little low installed there. The AV plate on the outdrive looks like it might be running a fair bit below the lower line of the hull perhaps.

to be honest, it doesn't look too terrible there, to be fair. I initially thought the av plate above the prop may have sat way below the lower hull...looks like it may just be ok there, when imagined in its lower position.

Probably looked bad due to the angle, trailer is blocked high at the front just now.
