Triana Tropica Project

Hi John

I am the guy with the windscreen!

Last year I finally got my Tropica on the water after extensive renovation work - 2 new 5.7 V8 petrols, refurbed dp290 drives, rewire - the list is endless! Finally got her in the water for 3 months to run in the engines and find out what else needed doing before starting on the interior and cosmetic stuff.

You can see the results to date by putting Triana Tropica Jaykay in the youtube search.

I didn't realise you had her up and running now, bringing her to Cowes for the Rally in September?
 
There's an outside chance that we may be there, but the costs are pretty scary just to get there! Weighing up the risks of towing her myself behind the Disco but knowing that I will be very close to weight limit (dhows to deltas states she is 3 ton) and a touch too wide at 9ft, but if we do an overnight to Poole it may be ok - you dont see many 25ft+ being towed around though. If anyone has any advice it would be appreciated

We had planned to have the interior refitted this spring, which at present is completely stripped - however Uni fees etc have put paid to that! Will try to attend but may bring the Yamarin so we can make a week of it - early days yet.

Steve Dunstable of this parish is the towing expert, an HGV driver by trade and seen on his off days driving a disco with sealine s24 in hot persuit.
 
Thanks for that, I think i will be heavier than the S24 - any idea what the penalties are for exceeding limits? The rig kind of doesn't look too heavy if you know what i mean, no flybridge and fairly low profile hull, but I would hate to have it all impounded!!
 
In the late sixties we used to visit my grandmother in Fairlie on the west coast of Scotland and there was a Triana in the boatyard. After first reading this thread it has taken me a couple of days to remember her name - "Witch of Endor". The fact that I can still remember shows what an impact it had on me.

Over 40 years later it is still a beautiful design and it's great to see people like yourself investing the time and money to keep older boats like this in good shape.
 
Nice Project. Zapcat's Triana 25 looks very good; a well thought out work in progress. I viewed her 3 years ago... and walked away...but credit for how well she is looking now.
I still believe this type of classic is worthy of; as I did 20 years ago, Diesel power...and may be...looking at Levi's past creations...some sort of transom/surface drive/ lancing marine type of propulsion.

Thanks Omano - surface drive would be ace but would cost more than the boat I think! - and I love my shiny new petrols!! The cost saving over 2 new big diesels will keep me in petrol for quite a while.

Thanks Omano, it's a slog at the moment - engines & drives were due to arrive this week but have been delayed again........think happy thoughts................
 
Now there's coincidence, I was only admiring a Triana ashore at Birdham Pool over the weekend ("Sonny" IIRC). Gorgeous looking boat, I hope the project goes as smoothly as you hope :)

As you can see, they even organized an historical register.
But I'm afraid it's only in Italian, and I don't know how effective an online translator can be with such technical language.
Unless you can get by with IT, of course - but if not, don't hesitate to ask.
At least in this (small) respect, I would be glad to contribute to the project!
 
Hi All,

Apologies for the apparent 'radio silence' - work commitments for a quarter end have consumed me, still, its great to see this thread sparking so many positive comments & welcomes - much appreciated from my perspective.
Update: The engines bay was due for prep last week ready to take the replacement AQ151's and reconditioned 270 drives but unfortunately the engineers were not able to make the agreed date - I'm assured they will kick-off their refit this week so I'll post an update and pics IF things go ahead as planned.
