I'm interested in buying a dragonfly, but after trying to get an insurance quote, am fast loosing all hope.

Can anyone recommend any good insurance brokers please?

Regards

Heath Lanbert 01512274321 and ask for Gareth Jones. They certainly know one end of the boat from the other (ie not a bimbo manned call centre) and looked after my multihull for many years at very reasonable costs. They are the only insurance I have where I do not change company / broker every year!

Problem is - several of those who bought one of the Dragonfly variants subsequently raced 'em darned hard - er, some would say 'too hard' - and there were rather a lot of steep insurance claims. Consequently, the very few syndicates left willing to underwrite that form of sailing boat are quite reasonably and professionally rather more wary now than they used to be.

Some of those mentioned above moved on to other makes/manufacturers, insuring through wife/sister/the cook/her lover, and the problem persists.....

I'm an enthusiast for sound multis, have sailed several thousand miles in Dragonflies various, and know full-well that 'it's the nut behind the wheel' that's the problem. But you're looking, severally, to subsidising that nut's sailing costs.

Enjoi!

That's perhaps because the groups' recently-retired COO was taken sailing on a sound 'Antigua' cat for a week, while still in the chair, out of Plymouth around the Scillies and back, and he deeply enjoyed it. Especially going to windward at 12 knots, passing everything in sight. In fact, he wants to go again soon.

The young 'Aussies with attitude' working at QAB were slightly impressed with the big, red Bentley that was left parked on the breakwater - especially when said COO mentioned he was mates in Aus with some of their legendary 'old' S-H helms..... Of course, Heath Lambert owned some of Aus's biggest brokerage outfits......

Thanks to everyone, I'm now getting quotes from all those mentioned, and hopeful all is not lost.

Very funny Searush (did make me chuckle actually!) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yachtmaster Insurance very helpful with my (overweight and slow) cruising cat - talk to them and explain how you intend to use the boat.

got to say, Bilbo, that based on the service I get, he deserves the Bentley.

Yachtmaster won't do Trimarans! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Nautical won't do Trimarans ! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Traffords (my insurance company for 7 years, no claims) will only do 3rd party /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
But, I've got some call backs due from Yachtsure, craftinsure, Heath Lambert and the star of the week is WH Insurance Consultants. Lovely man, so here's hoping /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
