....or more acurately getting the wife's buy-in to the new boat.

The previous yacht was kept on a swinging mooring in Gosport with a water taxi service. I thought it was a reasonable deal, with a little inconvenience on the timing of departure and return. With a new yacht coming mid-June the deal I got from the wife was a contribution on the condition that it would be kept in a marina.
Its not due until mid-June, so it doesnt make sense taking a proportion of the annual fee, especially as it will be taken out the water in the winter.

Whats the best deal for getting a Solent berth for June - October?
Oh, and depressing to think about it, but what about winter storage deals?

It doesn't bear thinking of!

You may have trouble finding anything for this season - most of the marinas in the Solent seem to have awaiting lists. I looked at this in some detail at the beginning of last season - and ended up on a buoy instead

Hiya
If you ring round for a berth you will probably find none avaliable ,but if you go in person to the different marinas and tell them you want one straight away you will have a better chance of getting one.

If you're interested in Port Solent, there are sometimes adverts in the shop (Alldays?) from people letting their private moorings

Thanks for the advice. Both Haslar and Campers have spaces, but the tariffs look bad, in that they are offering the annual rate, with no winter storage included. I think I might have to go with the monthly option for the season, and then find a place for the winter.

If you have a chat in person with either the berthing manager at Campers or Haslar you might get a surprise, a pleasant one at that depending on the size of boat.

good luck

I've just returned from a trip to the Solent (1 week) and managed to pre-book a berth via a web site. The promise was to provide me with the availability within 24hrs. It actually took 48 hrs, but I did make the request on a Friday evening.
As promised, the berth was available on arrival and the services were available as described (a pleasant surprise!). I'm not sure if they can offer anything other than visitor berthing but it may be worth checking out. If it's any use, the site is www.marinas.co.uk with the 'marinas' tab & the link 'Berth Finder'.
Good Luck!

Try Southsea Marina.

The WILL have a berth at very reasonable rates - they are very freindly and really care that you are looked after. Plenty of winter standing again at good rates. Half tide access via a sill but thats not bothered me in the 8 years I've been there - there is an all tide holding pontoon and they will even move your boat to and from it if you call them.

Ring 0239282 2719, speak to either Rupert or Sandy....you won't be dissapionted.
